Huawei P smart 2021 and Watch GT 2 Pro: Diametrically opposed but equally good products (TECH REVIEW)

Time 30/03/2022 By myhoneybakedfeedback

Theoretically, these products should not be bought together, being made for two different types of customers. However, I tested them at the same time, so I will allow myself to write about both in this review, starting with Huawei P smart 2021.

P Smart 2021

P smart 2021 is a smartphone with midrange specifications and entry-level price, being currently available at retailers for about 900 lei. I tested it in the black version and I must admit that it is a very good looking phone for the price it has. The back is obviously plastic, it's a budget phone, but I like the layout of the cameras, the module is much better integrated than other phones today and even than other Huawei devices, such as P40 lite.

Generous screen, good for viewing content

In front, there is a circular cutout in the display, which of course houses the selfie camera. And if we still remember the display, it is worth mentioning that it is a large one, 6.67 inches, with a screen-to-body ratio of about 84.3%, thanks to those pretty prominent black bands on the within the device. The panel is an IPS LCD that looks good and has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels, but I would have liked it to be a little brighter. However, the fact that it is so large makes it perfect for viewing content.

To clarify this early enough, P smart 2021 comes without GMS (Google Mobile Services), so no, you will only have access to YouTube, Gmail or Google Calendar via browser or other bypass routes. I have detailed in other reviews related to Huawei devices what they are, but you can keep a lot of applications through Phone Clone, a very useful application when switching to a Huawei device. It hasn't happened to me before that the GMS suite has been transferred, but apps like Waze or Uber have passed successfully and are running smoothly, even though they use Google maps.

In any case, Huawei provides users with two very important tools to alleviate this "lack": Petal Search and the AppGallery app store. We also talked about both in dedicated articles, Petal Search being a very good solution for downloading applications, which sends you directly to the official Facebook, Instagram or WhatsApp pages to get an APK and AppGallery being the Huawei application store, located in a continuous development and which has gone from 0 to over 1000 local applications in the last year.

Performance

However, the operating system is an Android 10, over which we have applied the EMUI 10.1 interface, and the processing is handled by a Kirin 710A on 14nm, with eight cores and a Mali-G51 MP4 graphics accelerator. In translation, this means excellent processing power, equivalent to that of a midrange phone, much more expensive than the P smart 2021. even for a more avid user.

Huawei P smart 2021 şi Watch GT 2 Pro: Produse diametral opuse, dar la fel de bune (TECH REVIEW)

The combination of RAM and storage is one - 4GB with 128GB, no other options. We have enough storage, so even if the 4GB of RAM doesn't look impressive, they do their job very well and don't give you any reason to complain.

The sound is not great in terms of quality when going to the maximum area, but it is loud enough and does not lose much clarity. Anyway, at least I didn't go down without explaining myself first.

The autonomy is excellent, which I have been saying for almost two years on Huawei devices, but which remains constantly valid: 5000mAh, with 22.5W on fast charge (obviously on USB-C). It is still the aspect in which it seems to me that no one compares with Huawei, the Shenzhen company constantly managing to bring a high-performance and capable battery on all its devices.

Rooms and other specifications

I also mention a few specifications that I have omitted so far: we have a fingerprint sensor on the side of the phone, which I do not like, but I know a lot of people who are fans of its placement here, Bluetooth 5.1, a weight 206 grams (a little too much, but it's okay) and an availability in three colors: Midnight Black, Crush Green and Blush Gold.

You've probably noticed that something is missing so far: the cameras. No, I did not leave them at the end because they would not be good, on the contrary, they are excellent. I didn't manage to take many photos, but I really liked the few ones I took. It is a competent phone in the photo area, equipped with a 48MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide, a 2MP macro and a 2MP depth sensor.

The colors are very well represented, I like that I didn't have visible artifacts with the naked eye, and the AI put to work by Huawei handles well different scenarios. But I liked more the shooting from behind, made in 4K quality, at 30fps. On the face of it, we find 1080p footage, also at 30fps, made with an 8MP selfie camera.

The main question seems to me to be: would I recommend Huawei P smart 2021? Well, yes. It seems to me an excellent phone in terms of value for money, very good in terms of specifications and photo-video package. Yeah Al that sounds pretty crap to me, Looks like BT aint for me either. A phone is an investment, even if we are talking about a Huawei P smart 2021 of 900 lei, and it seems normal to me to know what has and what does not have what you buy, especially when it is not a novelty in the market.

Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro

Okay, let's get to the other side of the barricade, where the premium device is, Huawei's flagship smartwatch, a watch more expensive than the phone we just talked about. So what can Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro do?

First of all, it's a big watch, with a dial that has 46.7mm and a weight of 52 grams (without strap). But it looks great, being made of titanium, with sapphire glass that protects the screen from scratches, giving it excellent resistance. It is available in two color versions, Night Black and Nebula Gray, but in terms of aesthetics you will be more interested in the straps you can have for it, and fortunately you have a lot of options available.

In the package, you will also receive a spare strap, in addition to the charger, watch and charging cable. It's a simple package, but the presentation is excellent. I easily notice the 1.39-inch AMOLED screen with two buttons (one for power and one for navigation) with a resolution of 454 x 454 pixels and I like its brightness, strong enough to make the screen visible in sunlight.

Superb display and very good performance

By the way, this seems to me to be the biggest plus of the Watch GT 2 Pro: the display. It's gorgeous, very easy to navigate (the Kirin A1 processor also helps) and big enough to read an entire message when you have notifications turned on. Add to that the resistance it has and you have a watch that you will wear for a few years without any problems and with pleasure.

When storing, we notice 4GB, for the songs and applications you want to put on your watch, enough space. It comes with Bluetooth 5.1, GPS and has a resistance of up to 50 meters deep. It comes with a lot of different types of sports that it can recognize, from skateboarding to wakeboarding and just about any other sport that comes to mind, including contact sports (although I don't understand much here, I don't know any contact sports practitioner who to train with the clock in hand), and the data they provide is excellent, constantly corresponding to what you feel during training and the actual figures (for example, the number of steps, calories burned, etc.).

The connection is made through the Huawei Health application, where you will find complete details of your workouts, heart rate and sleep and other information. Regarding sleep, I would like to mention that I did not sleep with him, because it still seems too big for me to be able to do this in a comfortable way.

Two weeks of autonomy

And for smartwatches, Huawei has no rival in terms of battery life. Watch GT 2 Pro can last two weeks (no active GPS, obviously). This is an aspect that no direct competitor can replicate, and this is perhaps Huawei's biggest advantage in this segment.

Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro costs about 1400 lei to most Romanian retailers at the time of writing, being the most expensive Huawei watch on the market. But it is also the best Huawei watch, offering a premium experience, and having an elegant look, with a large and good-looking display, which can be customized with a lot of watch faces in the application. I'm not a fan of big watches, and I doubt this will ever change, but the Huawei Watch GT 2 Pro is definitely a great choice for those who want to have "the best Huawei experience" on hand.
