GeForce Now or how to bring your favorite PC-quality gaming games directly to your iPhone

The quality of the internet connection is constantly increasing, and gigabit speeds are somehow the order of the day. 5G promises a boost on the speed of data traffic in mobile networks, and in this context there is more and more discussion about cloud gaming, gaming carried on virtual machines and brought to devices without much processing power with a solid connection to the world wide web.

On the other hand, there is talk of democratizing access to state-of-the-art games, I could use a more plastic term, a Netflix of games. Several companies have joined this choir and are trying their hand at the sea.

You need to find a solution that will satisfy game developers, enthusiasts interested in paying a subscription and get quick access to favorite titles, but also be feasible as an investment in technology to run cloud applications.

GeForce Now is NVIDIA's solution for cloud gaming. It was released in beta in 2015 and in the final version in 2020.

There are 2 options for those interested:

You can play the latest titles on a laptop or PC that could not play them in optimal conditions or not at all, just to have a good internet connection for a response time as soon as possible.

From the end of 2020, you can use GeForce Now and bring your favorite titles to your iPhone. All you need is a bluetooth gamepad (I used the Xbox wireless controller that also works with PCs).

Well, I have to be more specific.

  1. You need a GeForce Now subscription (free or Founders);
  2. Depending on the title you are playing, you may need to sign in to Steam or Origin (I brought my Steam library to GeForce Now, everything was done in seconds). You must buy those games or already have them on a platform;
  3. The best possible internet connection is recommended for decent gameplay;
  4. GeForce Now runs on Safari iPhone (web-based application).

I played The Whitcher 3: Wild Hunt and I can say that it exceeded my expectations. The truth is that in the Free version, you have time to wait until a virtual machine is released, etc. In the Founders version, it moved faster than my gaming notebook from ASUS (ROG Strix Scar III with RTX 2070, 16 GB RAM etc). You don't feel lag of any kind and this seems really spectacular to me, it also helps that I'm logged in from a gigabit connection.

By the way, in some titles you have a virtual gamepad, directly on the iPhone screen. You don't necessarily need a gamepad, but it takes up space with your hands and for a more immersive gameplad, a controller would be recommended.

The list of games available on GeForce Now is comprehensive, with over 600 titles available. You can find it here.

GeForce Now caters to enthusiasts, those who want to play their favorite titles on-the-go without having their laptop or gaming PC on hand, or those who have a large library and don't want to constantly upgrade their PC to to Run the Newest Games |
