The pirated version of Resident Evil Village runs better than the official one

Since the world and the earth, digital rights management (DRM) has stood in the way of the happiness of many, because there are two types of people in this world: the right and the pirates. We live in strange times, in which the quickest release of cracks for the newest games has become an art, a bizarre sport, followed especially on Reddit.

However, this phenomenon also brings some interesting things, because this time it is a more or less controversial discovery. It is rumored on the net that a pirated version of Resident Evil Village would run better on PC than the official one on Steam. Digital Foundry has set out to investigate, and as you can see, piracy has even prevailed in this case.

It seems that this cracked Resident Evil Village is not experiencing moments of in-game suttering as is the case with the licensed copy. The experiment shows that, in general, the two versions enjoy the same performance, only that the official RE is hindered by some spikes when some frames are rendered. On the other hand, pirated copy does not suffer at all from this problem, which leads many to believe that the DRM introduced by Capcom is to blame.

Digital Foundry states that these moments are found especially during fights and that the console versions are actually untouched by stuttering. Resident Evil Village integrates both Denuvo services and proprietary DRM Capcom. Denuvo can be found in other games, such as Final Fantasy 15 and Devil May Cry 5. In some cases, Denuvo can destabilize the framerate in certain situations, and in this case both Denuvo and Capcom seem to work together. to the detriment of PC gamers.

There are situations (which are really rarer) in which game cracks not only eliminate their DRMs, but also have the chance to solve certain technical problems that have found their place in the official versions, but the opportunities are not frequent enough to reach a verdict that is not at all relevant. In the meantime, Capcom has informed PC Gamer that it is investigating this issue and will most likely return with a fix, as has been the case with previous games (Resident Evil 7, Devil May Cry 5).
