ICloud backup
To back up your conversations manually, go to WhatsApp> Settings> Conversations> Backup conversations and tap Back up now. You need to have enough space on both your iCloud account and iPhone.
Using iCloud on cellular data
If you're worried about data usage, we recommend setting up your iCloud account to back up Wi-Fi only. To turn off iCloud when using cellular data:
For iOS 8 and later: Go to iPhone Settings> Cellular Connection> Disable iCloud Drive.
For iOS 7: Go to iPhone Settings> iCloud> Documents & Data> turn off Use cellular data. Retrieve conversation history from iCloud
To retrieve your conversation history from a backup in iCloud, you first need to check if you already have a backup file by going to WhatsApp> Settings> Conversations> Backup conversations.
If you see when the last backup was done, delete and reinstall WhatsApp from the App Store.
After checking your phone number, follow the on-screen instructions to retrieve your conversation history.
The same iCloud backup requirements apply to iCloud backup recoveries.
The phone number used for backup and recovery must be the same. Unable to retrieve conversation history from another WhatsApp account.
Even if you use the same iCloud account with another family member, WhatsApp backups will be saved separately for all users due to the requirement to use the same phone number for iCloud backup and WhatsApp account.
