A recent leak about the next-generation iPhone SE didn't offer much hope for a major change. The iPhone SE3 could be just an internal hardware upgrade, without an external upgrade, with the iPhone 8 case remaining unchanged. However, a new leak suggests that Apple is preparing a different iPhone SE3, based more on the design of the iPhone XR, which would also mean the disappearance of the Touch ID fingerprint sensor on Apple phones.
iPhone SE3 could still use Touch ID
According to MyDrivers, a Chinese technology publication known for exclusive information obtained through unofficial channels, the iPhone SE3 will benefit from a more modern design with upgrades significant in all aspects.
First, the old design with small screen, thick edges and physical Home button with Touch ID would disappear. It would be replaced by the iPhone XR design, which debuted in 2018. We are talking about a phone with a 6.1" LCD screen and HD+ resolution, but which could integrate the fingerprint sensor into the Power button on the side. However, the presence of Face ID is neither confirmed nor denied. But given that Apple has put a notch on MacBook Pro laptops, surely the cutout design at the top of the screen will remain.
Then, inside, it would receive the same top hardware that we find in the new iPhone 13 models. We are talking about the new Apple A15 Bionic chipset, one of the most powerful processors on the mobile market, alongside 4 or 6 GB RAM and 5G connectivity, for the first time on an SE model. The same thing happened with the iPhone SE2, which came with an iPhone 8 body and iPhone 11 hardware.
At the moment, given that the rumors are contradicting each other at the moment, we cannot know for sure if this iPhone SE3 exists, or if it will adopt the old or the new design. However, this is not the first time we hear about an iPhone SE with an iPhone XR design. We'll probably have to wait for news from more reputable sources in "leaks" like this.
The launch of the new iPhone SE3 could take place in the spring, just like it happened with the other two previous generations.
