Xiaomi has 17% of global smartphone shipments, ahead of Apple with 14% and behind Samsung with 19%.

"Xiaomi is rapidly growing its overseas business," Canalys research director Ben Stanton said in a press release, noting that shipments rose 300 percent year-over-year in Latin America and 50 % in Western Europe.

The Chinese smartphone maker saw year-on-year growth of 83%, compared to 15% for Samsung and 1% for Apple.

Stanton says Xiaomi's phones, on the other hand, are aimed at the mass market, with an average selling price 75% cheaper than Apple's.

But the Beijing-based company is now trying to break into the high-end market. Earlier this year it launched the Mi 11 Ultra, a premium smartphone that starts at $928. It also launched the Mi Mix Fold, its first foldable phone, at over $1,500.

Xiaomi has benefited from the problems of Huawei, once the world's largest smartphone supplier. US sanctions have deprived the Chinese company of critical supplies, including software and chips, causing its sales to plummet.

There are phones with built-in spyware that send data to Beijing :

Everything designed in China is a security or privacy risk. It would be good if we stopped buying their garbage like Xiaomi, Huawei or ZTE. The Chinese Communist Party can't wait for us to buy them 'because they're cheap' and follow us all, just like they do with the population of China, which is under surveillance 24/7, including face recognition cameras. Unfortunately, too few people know these things and many of those who know don't care. These products should not even be available for sale in the EU or the US, as their sale enriches China and brings it even closer to the Communist Party's goal of being the number 1 world power.

all Chinese goods called chinaware are of poor quality starting from shoes, textiles, electronics, food and the others, it would be better to ban imports from China. Unfortunately, Western companies invest massively in China instead of investing in EU countries.

Phones from China are just as durable and do exactly the same job as Samsung or Apple, the difference is that they are 75% cheaper. 70% of Apple phones are manufactured in Asia (China, South Korea, etc.) Everyone follows your movements, the ultimate role being marketing. You don't want to be followed, switch to the keyboard and GPRS. No internet. Otherwise you agree to be tracked with the use of smart devices. Phone, tablet, laptop or TV all follow the pattern of the user. The right to privacy is a myth that politically we tend to believe is viable, valid and put into operation, the truth is far away. Everyone hunts for information, because information means power, so in this current war, just to have it in your head not to think that you have no way to protect yourself, is impossible. If you think that your information is protected, you live in another world.
