REVIEW moto g100 + dock Motorola Ready For: A phone like a laptop

Time 25/02/2022 By myhoneybakedfeedback

moto g100 is a premium mid-range that seems designed for gaming, but also for long-term performance. It also comes with Ready For, a desktop mode similar to Samsung or Huawei, which turns it into a portable PC for gaming, multimedia or productivity.

But before we talk about specs and features, let's see what's on the surface and talk about design.

Design

In terms of design, the moto g100 does not stand out from any other Motorola smartphones in the mid-range range. It has a glossy plastic body, in beautiful colors and an elongated shape.

On the back we see the quadruple camera in the upper left corner, the Motorola logo and that's it. In front we see the large display with a double front camera perforated in the screen. The edges around the screen are quite large - for smartphones between 1,000 and 1,500 lei is not something that really bothers me, but the moto g100 is a bit more peppery in price and I would have expected to see a larger display until edges.

On the right edge we have the power button with integrated fingerprint sensor and volume buttons, and on the bottom edge we have the USB-C port and the jack.

Overall, the design is fine, but it's not the most successful aspect of this smartphone.

Display

The display, in addition to the rather thick edges, has many pluses. It is a very bright, colorful 6.7-inch IPS LCD that offers strong contrast. Even if it is not an AMOLED display, the quality of the display is high - it is compatible with the HDR 10 standard and the viewing angles are very good.

What I especially liked is the 90Hz frequency. It is not the fastest display on the market, but it brings an increase in performance, especially in gaming.

About the screen, overall, only good - it's good for multimedia and gaming and offers generous space.

Performance and specifications

In this respect, the moto g100 really shines. The big surprise is the Snapdragon 870 5G processor. It is a flagship processor that offers unexpected performance for a smartphone with a price of only 2,000 lei.

Along with the processor we also find 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Overall, in terms of performance, the moto g100 is an undercover beast. It leads any game, any application, offering a very pleasant experience in any task.

It is also a smartphone that you can rely on for a long time, given that the processor will remain efficient even after two years of use.

At the level of autonomy, things are very good again. The 5,000 mAh battery will bring about two days of moderate use and at least a full day of heavy use. The battery charges quickly, but only at 20W, so a full charge cycle will take about two hours.

However, overall, if you want a very powerful smartphone, but you are not willing to spend about 1,000 euros on a well-known flagship, this model from Motorola will certainly not disappoint you.

Photo cameras

The main camera is quadruple, but you will only take pictures of two of the modules - we are talking about a 64MP main sensor with F / 1.7 and one with ultrawide lenses, 16MP with F / 2.2. In addition to these two cameras, the Moto G100 comes with a ToF sensor and a 2MP depth sensor.

Overall, the results are good to very good. The main room is excellent in all light conditions and the portraits are great. The night mode does its job very well and we get good photos in any light condition. The ultrawide camera does well in strong natural light, but is less impressive at night. However, it has an important advantage - you can use it as a macro camera.

Thanks to the processor, you can shoot 6K at 30 frames per second or 4K at 60.

Selfie cameras also offer great results. There is a 16MP sensor with F / 2.2 and another 8MP, with ultrawide lenses, also with F / 2.2. So you can also take selfies with a blurred background, but also successful group selfies.

Motorola Ready For

As I said at the beginning, the moto g100 comes with the Ready For functionality developed by Motorola. It's a feature you can enjoy at any time with a USB-C / HDMI or USB-C / USB-C cable, depending on which monitor you have.

With Ready For you can turn a non-smart TV into one that can play your favorite movies and series on Netflix. You can turn your phone into a game console by attaching it to any screen and attaching a controller to it. You can have a very powerful productivity tool, capable of multitasking, anywhere and anytime. And you can benefit from the front cameras of the moto g100 in video calls, but on a big screen.

Each of these activities has a dedicated mode that you can choose as soon as you connect the cable to your smartphone.

The Ready For dock is not available in Romania, but it is worth mentioning that this is a stand with a fan, meant to keep the phone at normal temperatures during intense gaming sessions or during long video calls. Insert the cable into it, as well as the phone, orient it as you like thanks to the magnetic grip of the holder and enjoy the desktop mode.

As I said, however, you can enjoy Ready For without that dock, and you don't even have to tie a smartphone accessory to use it that way. The screen turns into a trackpad and you can control the applications on the big screen.

Overall, the experience offered by the Motorola Ready For platform is a very pleasant one, even if it is not a premiere on the market.

It certainly adds value, and it's good to know that if you go on vacation, for example, you can connect your smartphone to the TV in your hotel room and have access to multimedia content, productivity tools, and even sessions. of gaming.

Price and conclusion

As I said earlier, the moto g100 is priced at about 2,000 lei. It's a very good price for what this smartphone offers in terms of performance. Ready For mode is also an asset on its price range and the cameras are not to be ignored in this model.

g100 is a perfect purchase for young people, interested in multimedia and gaming, but also for those who value productivity and autonomy, who want a smartphone that will last at least a few years.
